A man who strangled his ex-girlfriend's pet rabbits in a jealous rage has been given an 18-month supervision order.Clifford Whitbread, 31, could not accept his relationship with Sarah Roberts was over, Burnley magistrates heard. He killed the two rabbits while Miss Roberts slept in September last year. She woke to find them motionless with blood on their faces.
Whitbread pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage and possessing drugs.
Miss Roberts found the hutch had been disturbed and blood on the ground.
Whitbread was seen hitting one of the rabbits with a brick to "finish it off" by a neighbour's two grandchildren, Burnley magistrates heard.
After finding her dead pets, Miss Roberts texted the defendant: "You've killed the rabbits!"
In a statement, Miss Roberts said Whitbread's actions were an attempt to harm her psychologically.
Graeme Tindall, defending, said Whitbread was "deeply ashamed" of his behaviour.
Whitbread, was told to attend an alcohol awareness course as part of his supervision order.
He was also ordered to pay £65 costs.
A post-mortem examination carried out by the RSPCA on the rabbits found no conclusive evidence of "unnecessary suffering".

How very typical, but then the swine who killed the rabbits wasn't elderly, diabled or poor was he?
Like the bloke who kicked his girlfriend's Staffy to death---how can the RSPCA possibly say that the dog didn't suffer either?
They seem to be very selective in who they'll prosecute don't they?
